One to one lessons
We offer lessons in pop, metal, rock, folk & funk guitar. Most people learn some combination of these styles. Lessons for older children and adults are usually one hour long and given on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your needs and budget. For younger children we offer 30 and 45 minute lessons at which a parent can choose to attend if they like, although we are also quite happy to teach them unaccompanied (if you want to learn to play guitar with your child, see our Parent/Child Lessons section). Some advanced students benefit from occasional, one-off lessons, and we also offer these.
Unlike some guitar teaching organisations, all our lessons are tailor-made to suit the type of playing that you want to do, and the songs you want to learn, and are based around bespoke printed worksheets, which we produce in advance of your lesson. We have spent many years building up a huge database of learning materials (backing tracks, sheet music, exercises, etc), which enable us to teach incredibly flexibly and not to rely on set ‘courses’. As of summer 2009 we have started a video lessons project, and these are available free to our students and provide you with reminders and support at home.
Here are some genuine testimonals from people we teach.
Please see Rates section above for fees info. Depending on availability and where you are based, you may start off your lessons with either Henry Outhwaite who teaches in the Palmeira Square area of Hove, or Dan Denning who teaches in Brighton (Preston Park). We teach from home studios which are equipped with all the equipment you will need. We do offer a few home visits but these are more expensive for us to offer as we have to charge for the time and costs of travel.
If you are buying lessons for someone else, you might like to see our gift vouchers.
Please note that at present we do not offer lessons in classical or flamenco guitar.
