At the tender age of 36 I decided to finally learn how to play the guitar. After my trial lesson with James I was so excited I went & bought my guitar the next day & haven't looked back. I expected to feel very awkward & embarrassed by the whole thing, but James makes you feel at ease the moment you walk in & is very patient & encouraging whilst being quick to point out any mistakes before they become bad habits. I only started in Nov 2009 but already I can play 4 songs that he has shown me and have self-taught myself another 5. OK none of them are perfect yet, but they are getting there with practice and I can't wait to see what I can do this time next year! Thanks James.

I started playing guitar later in life (if only I started younger I could be world famous and rich now !!) But if that was the case I wouldnt have met such a great teacher as I have in Dan. I have now been assaulting his ears for nearly 2 years but my playing and confidence is right up there now and I have moved onto some great but harder classic tunes (with some U2 to come ;-) I hope !!). Once again thank you Dan for your great lessons. Oh and the entertainment that you and you band have given me over the last year or too.

I'm your classic middle-aged bloke buys electric guitar in order to get in touch with his lost youth types. After a few months of noodling around with chord books I decided to get some help and enrolled with BGL. Dan has been infinitely patient with my ham-fisted mangling of his chosen instrument and has never been anything less than encouraging. He is a truly motivational tutor and never complains about my misty-eyed recollections of the time i saw Led Zep / John Martyn etc, etc. As a result of his help my family have stopped leaving the room whenever Ii pick up a guitar and they now even recognise tunes that I play! I know I'm never gpoing to bound out on stage and shout 'Hello Wembley', but, hey, I'm having lots of fun... if only I'd done it when I was fifteen..."

I was a total total beginner when Henry started giving me lessons about 18 months ago now I'm probably better than I ever imagined I'd be, and also realise how much better I could be! I've played other instruments but have never been as captured as I have here, I still look forward to every lesson, Henry makes the learning amazingly fun! I just want to go home and practice what I've just been taught, and sometimes do. Some things I've gotten straight away and some things I've found harder, Henry's great at figuring out where your strengths and weaknesses are and builds the lessons with this in mind, really patient to work on things you don't quite get but also really get your money’s worth, if he can see your doing ok he'll cram the last 15mins with something more challenging for you to go practice, arghh!!

Dan has put up with my fumbling attempts to play guitar better for two years of lessons now and finally (after attempting to teach myself for 20 years previously) I am not embarrassed to play in front of other (carefully selected) people. He is very patient, unflappable, and puts up with my almost tourette's style swearing in frustration. He is also unceasingly enthusiastic and cheerful. I enjoy my lessons tremendously and can't recommend the whole school enough. The parties are great too!

Great teacher, nice bloke, infinitely patient with ageing, ham-fisted, wannabe rock gods like me. Good to have lessons that are actually structured and heading somewhere, rather than random and rambling, as has been my experience with other guitar 'teachers' in the past. I really look forward to learning stuff with Henry.

I'd been playing for about fifteen years without lessons. The few lessons I had taken when I was younger had put me off because it always seemed I had to learn stuff I had no interest in before I progressed. I was impressed with a friend who had only just started lessons with Henry, he seemed to be learning very quickly and was always excited with whatever he was learning. I seemed to have hit a wall and so I decided to give it a go. The lessons have been really helpful, despite the time I've been playing they've helped me fix some of the bad habits I had picked up, made my playing a lot better by learning simple tricks and methods and got me interested in loads of new styles I never thought I'd manage - for example fingerpicking and folk playing. He demystified scales for me and now I can cover the fretboard a lot easier and it's given me a lot of new voicings while still retaining my 'style' - something I think would have been hammered out by a less understanding tutor. I'm also not so worried about tackling hard pieces anymore - in fact I look forward to it and can manage stuff I never thought I'd be able to do a few years ago. As I said, very patient and encouraging and open to any style you're interested in. Show him your favourite guitar player and he'll figure out what he's doing and break it down for you - no matter how weird. Also very flexible with booking lessons and good rates. As a result, I've recommended him to friends who have all enjoyed their experiences. Plus he'll make you a coffee before you start.

I was given a guitar as a leaving present from work, having never played before I decided to take lessons. I found Brighton Guitar Lessons on a Google search and started lessons with Henry earlier this year. I'm by no means a natural musician but I've improved a lot since I first picked up the guitar (thanks to Henry and his teaching methods). Each lesson is planned to the needs and music taste of the individual and Henry writes revision notes to take away and practise. The studio is bright and airy and the price is reasonable given the amount of tuition crammed into the hour-long lesson. I've heard a few horror stories with other guitar teachers in the Brighton/Hove area so am pleased to have found a good one. Henry is patient and always able to identify why a piece of music doesn't sound right when played; he then offers tips on how to improve it (which usually work). A great teacher, highly recommended (so get in quick before his list of students get too long...).

I've had about 5 lessons with Henry now and feel I have learned more in these few lessons than I did in a long time with previous teachers. The lessons are really well structured and built around your personal taste which makes it much more engaging and enjoyable. What's more, I don't feel terrified if I hadn't had chance to practice as much as I should have, Henry seems to understand that I'm fitting a hobby around a full-time job rather than the other way around. This makes learning much more fun which is how it should be! Thanks Henry!

I had punished a guitar on and off for years but never really 'learnt' how to play it. I went along full of bad habits and self consciousness and Henry demonstrated a reassuring warmth and over the coming months a near Olympian patience. We have wholly different tastes in music and it couldn't matter less. Lessons are fun but focused and geared toward what I want to play. He is a good teacher. And did I mention his patience?

I hadn't gone to music lessons since I was small lad when my parents forced me to learn the piano. Many years later, I regretted the day I gave it all up. A workmate of mine decided to take up the guitar a couple of years ago and found Henry. He told me all about him, his teaching methods and the way he fastidiously prepared him for each lesson. I was suitable impressed to have a go myself at the tender age of 38. 2 years later I'm still playing and that's all down to Henry. He has the patience of a saint and breaks lessons down in a constructive way that makes it very easy to learn. Whereas many guitar tutors are guitar players who dabble in teaching, Henry is a teacher who is also an amazing guitar player.

I was an absolute beginner when I booked my first lesson with James in 2008, I had never even held a guitar ! He was the perfect choice of teacher for me offering masses of encouragement and a bucket full of patience. I can honestly say I leave each lesson with a big smile on my face and full of confidence. Every lesson is tailored to my musical taste and ability and his enthusiasm and passion for his work make every visit a positive and fulfilling experience. James has introduced me to some great artists that I would never have had the pleasure of hearing without him and he is also equally happy to help me re-visit my old fave songs in any lesson. Well done James !!

I have been taking lessons with James now for about 10 months, not only has my confidence increased, my ability has dramatically increased. I'm now going online every week looking a new songs that I would have skipped over before and becoming more of an independent guitar player. I still have lessons now every 2 weeks, to which James keeps providing me with challenging techniques and songs to master. The style of the lessons are entirely at our own pace and focus around you and what you want to learn. James is a fantastic teacher who has introduced me in to lots of new songs and bands I had no idea about, a very approachable teacher who is willing to even learn songs that you want to learn just so he can teach you. These lessons have made a really big impact in my musical life and have taught me so much and have just been fantastic from the word go. Thanks James keep it up.

After just one Guitar Lesson with James, my confidence was sky high and with some very slight changes in my technique and thinking I was able to start tackling songs which I previously would have avoided... Barre chords will no longer be my enemy!! I've been playing guitar for 8 years (self taught) but one lesson really did have a huge impact on my playing and I can't wait for the next one!!
